Jaron Ennis vs. Terence Crawford rejected by Shakur Stevenson; declares 'Boots' unbeatable at welterweight: “He’s the future of boxing"
Jaron Ennis successfully defended his IBF welterweight world title against David Avanesyan in front of home fans in Philadelphia, America. The undefeated fighter extended his record to 32-0 (1NC), after landing a thudding left hook in the fifth round that saw his opponent retired in his corner.
Fans have called for a bout between former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford and Ennis since 2023. Given that 'Boots' finished Avanesyan quicker than 'Bud' did in 2022, where he defeated the Russian via KO in Round 6, talks of a welterweight mega-fight have gained steam again.
But a teammate of Crawford, Shakur Stevenson, recently dismissed the idea of a clash between the former undisputed welterweight king, and the new top dog at 147 pounds.
Stevenson attended Ennis' clash on 13 June, after which he was interviewed by Fight Hub TV, where he was asked about a Crawford-Ennis bout. He said this:
"I'm not answering that question. I love my big brother, 'Bud', I think he's a hell of a fighter. I think 'Boots' is the future of boxing. Two hell of a fighters. [Ennis] will be undisputed at 147 [pounds], yeah. Nobody at 147 can beat [Ennis]."

Jaron Ennis calls out Terence Crawford following IBF title defense
Jaron Ennis continued to prove why he is regarded as arguably the most promising talent in all of boxing with his IBF title victory over David Avanesyan on 13 June.
'Boots' secured the 29th stoppage win of his career to move to 32-0, and has eyes on a clash with Terence Crawford next.
'Bud' became the undisputed welterweight champion following his TKO win over Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023. However, the Nebraska native has since announced his move to 154 pounds., and will take on the dangerous Israil Madrimov in August for the WBA title.
But despite the former welterweight king's departure in search of more glory at higher weight divisions, 'Boots' remains eager to schedule a clash with 'Bud' at 147 pounds. Following his victory over Avanesyan, he said this:
"Let's make [the fight] happen. I want the big names, Terence Crawford, anybody else with big names, let's make it happen."
