Jarred Brooks links up with Olympic freestyle wrestler Brandon Escobar for ONE Fight Night 24 training camp
Jarred Brooks didn't just add another brilliant talent to his training camp, but it seems he also stirred a hornet's nest ahead of his interim world title fight at ONE Fight Night 24.
The American star announced on Instagram that he linked up with former Olympic freestyle wrestler Brandon Escobar ahead of his ONE interim strawweight MMA world title match against Gustavo Balart.
Brooks' recent move, though, was as calculated as ever since the Honduran freestyle wrestler is a former training partner of Balart's.
In his Instagram post, Jarred Brooks said he was honored to have the 2012 London Olympian join his fight camp.
He wrote:
"Complete honor to bring @escobarthefighter into this camp. He is a freestyle Olympian, the first Honduran to do so! @tigermuaythai and @jacksonwink_mma coach, and former training partner of my opponent!"
Brooks added:
"God blesses me with people. Want to thank my boy @j0n_reyes as well for getting me these looks! If anyone is in the @brighton area of Michigan, hit him up, literally a wizard!"
Brooks, a former ONE strawweight MMA world champion, has another chance at gold when he faces the number three-ranked contender Balart on August 2 at the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
ONE Fight Night 24 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Jarred Brooks plans to showcase his class against Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24
Jarred Brooks and Gustavo Balart are arguably two of the best pure grapplers in mixed martial arts, but the former strawweight MMA king plans to show 'El Gladiator' that he'll always be the better wrestler.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Brooks said:
"I'm going to show Gustavo that there are steps and levels to this game too. He hasn't been in this fight game as long as I have. He's been in the wrestling game for just as long as me. So I do see him wanting to wrestle, but at the end of the day, man, this is a fight and we're in a ring."
