Jarred Brooks thanks friends and family back home for support: “There were a lot of people tuning in”

Newly crowned ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States was overcome with joy after capturing ONE Championship gold again.

While Brooks knew his friends and family were watching his fight with former Cuban Olympic wrestler 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart unfold from thousands of miles away, he never realized just how many people actually tuned in.

'The Monkey God' told his supporters through ONE:

"Thank you guys so much for supporting me throughout these past two years, and especially this past year when all hell broke loose. I had people saying that I was a cheater, people saying I was a bad athlete, that I'm not a good fighter, and stuff like that. I appreciate everybody who actually hung with me and understood where I stood as a mixed martial artist."

Brooks continued:

"And I want to thank all the people back home too, in the United States that went and tuned in. I try to stay away from my phone as much as possible, a day away from fights, but holy crap, there were a lot of people tuning in to watch me and Gustavo's fight from my hometown, to Michigan, to all around the United States, for the people that know me. It means a lot. Thank you guys so much."

Brooks defeated Balart via first-round rear-naked choke to capture the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title.

ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart took place live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday, August 3rd. Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action via replay on-demand on Amazon Prime Video.
