JD Vance delves into Donald Trump’s VP offer and its links to the Pennsylvania rally incident during his appearance on JRE

Donald Trump has survived several assassination attempts during the 2024 presidential campaign. But none have been etched into the memory of people more than Trump being shot in the ear at a presidential rally in Pennsylvania in July.

The news understandably made headlines worldwide, and the Republican Party's presidential candidate being a global figure.

Trump's nominee for to be his vice-president, Senator JD Vance, recently appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience, where he shared a fascinating insight into the overlap between being picked as the VP nomination and the assassination attempt.

He said:

"The morning that he was shot in Butler, PA, was the first time he and I ever talked about [the vice-presidency]... The media had always asked me, because I was one of the rumored short-list candidates, I kept on getting questions from reporters, 'Have you ever had this conversation with Trump?' And the honest answer was no."

Vance continued:

"Well Saturday morning that changed, because I go down [to Mar-a-Lago] and he's like, 'What do you think? Why should I choose you? Why should I not choose these other guys?'"

He added:

"He said, 'I think I'm probably going to pick you. But I don't know, and I'm not ready to make a decision.' Then he looked at one of his staff members in the room and he's like, 'Actually, wouldn't it really set the world ablaze if we just made the decision today? Why don't you come up with me and we'll do the announcement in Butler, Pennsylvania.'"

Donald Trump names his favorite UFC fighter

Donald Trump has been a fan of combat sports for many years, having been spotted at high-profile boxing fights and MMA events on many occasions.

UFC CEO Dana White has also been a friend of Trump's for over 15 years, and has spoken candidly about the business mogul's financial assistance during the promotion's "dark ages" period.

The former president recently appeared on popular streamer Adin Ross' page for an interview, where Trump praised White and named his favorite UFC fighter. He said:

"Dana [White], there's nobody like him. And I always say, 'everybody can be replaced, except Dana.' This guy travels the world looking for fighters...He doesn't care, from countries nobody ever heard of and that's where he finds the best fighters...I think Khabib [Nurmagomedov, I mean, how good is he? I guess 29-0 and then his father died and then he stopped."
