Jessica Andrade opens up on childhood abuse trauma, reveals she hated being on OnlyFans
Jessica Andrade recently spoke about her history of abuse in light of deleting her OnlyFans account.
The former UFC strawweight champion jumped on the subscription-based content platform in June last year after several requests from American fans.
Majorly known for being a pornographic-themed website, OnlyFans is not necessarily limited to such content. However, being on the platform turned out to be distressing for Andrade, as it triggered her deep-seated trauma from being a survivor of childhood abuse.
In an appearance on the Cortes do Connect Cast Portuguese language podcast (H/T: MMA Mania), Andrade revealed how much she disliked having an OnlyFans account:
"I used to have [an OnlyFans account], I don’t anymore. I never liked doing that, can you believe it? That was really bad for me. Because I have childhood traumas, stuff like abuse, and everything. When I did that [OnlyFans], I felt the same way. I felt my hands were tied, I couldn’t react. Do you know when you freeze? It got very deep into my trauma. And I couldn’t say no."
She further added that when her pictures got leaked, she only pretended to be fine with it but she was not:
"I hated it, hated it. I had never spoken [about childhood abuse]. Only the closest people knew. Now the whole world will know. But it’s part of it. It was something that really traumatized me and I didn’t know how to say ‘no.’ It referred to me [to what I had experienced in childhood]. When the first pictures leaked it was really bad. Because I had to pretend that I was fine, and I wasn’t fine."
Andrade shared a different, more positive take on the matter in an interview with MMA Fighting last year.
OnlyFans helped Jessica Andrade pay off car loan and months of rent in advance
Back in September 2021, Jessica Andrade told MMA Fighting that she was not upset about the leak and seemed more accepting of the fact that it happened:
"I wasn’t upset because I already imagined it could happen... Not everyone is honest with you all the time. The photos were a package to one person but you don’t know this person’s heart and nature, and unfortunately that happened. But it was a learning experience."
She went on to reveal that OnlyFans money allowed her to settle her car loan and pay six to seven months of rent for her Las Vegas residence in advance. She also used it to pay bills in Brazil and help her and her wife Fernanda Gomes' family - all without even touching her previous fight purse.
Jessica Andrade recovered well from her TKO loss to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 261 with three consecutive wins. She picked up a TKO over Cynthia Calvillo, a historic arm triangle choke submission against Amanda Lemos, and in her last outing at UFC 283, a lopsided decision over Lauren Murphy.
Trivia: Jessica Andrade is part of an elite club with Conor McGregor and Jared Cannonier. They are the only three fighters in UFC history to have picked up finishes in three separate weight classes.
