Joe Rogan discusses the benefits of relinquishing control of ego with author Steven Pressfield

Joe Rogan believes everyone's quality of life can be so much better once they relinquish control of their ego.

Rogan was joined by author Steven Pressfield on episode 1901 of the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) and got into an in-depth discussion on managing one's ego. While discussing the topic, the UFC announcer and podcast host said:

"If we relinquish control, then we're gonna come up with better stuff and our lives will be better. Be able to buy a nicer house. Maybe be able to go on trips. You're work will do well, everything would be good."

Pressfield chimed in and added his view on ego from a different perspective. He mentioned that he believes that ego lives in fear and death as a reason why people base their important decisions around it:

"The ego believes that this material world is all there is. The ego believes in death. The ego believes that when this body dies, we die. The ego believes that this flesh could be hurt... maimed... broken, etc. The ego naturally lives in fear... Even if we might not know it, fear of death."

The author also explained how ego could cause procrastination in other factors of life such as taxes, insurance, and family life. Ego is an element that relates to every field of work or sport because it involves an individual's aspirations and fear is a driving factor in continuing to achieve success.
