Joe Rogan discusses whether fighters like Bobby Lashley and Paulo Costa are substance-free: "He's just got the genes, son"

Joe Rogan recently discussed whether fighters like Bobby Lashley and Paulo Costa are substance-free due to their impressive physiques. He noted that it's unfair to label them otherwise, but opened up on the first impressions about them.

During a recent episode of his JRE MMA Show with guests John Rallo, Matt Serra and Din Thomas, the UFC commentator noted that the Brazilian is natural, considering the promotion's drug testing. Rogan mentioned that Costa has excellent genetics and wouldn't lean into his 'secret juice' had he been using PEDs:

"It's amazing some guys are natural, right? Like, Paolo Costa, he's just got the genes, son...I'm guessing [he's natural]...I don't think [Costa would] be talking that much sh*t [with the secret juice]...He always looks the same, he never tests positive and the guy has crazy genetics...The guy's got freak genetics just in looks and also in his build." [10:19 - 10:47]

Although his thoughts on Costa being natural was due to the UFC's drug testing, the JRE host wasn't too convinced when discussing the former WWE champion. Even though he amassed a respectable MMA record, Rogan mentioned that Lashley wasn't subject to the same stringent drug testing:

"[Bellator testing is] a multiple choice test...No disrespect to Bobby Lashley, but still...He was always on an Indian reservation somewhere...Bro, what a body though. Bobby Lashley is the only guy that fought in MMA that looked like he [could] enter a bodybuilding competition the day of the fight." [7:17 - 7:45]

Joe Rogan compliments Bobby Lashley's fighting ability

Although he wasn't too convinced that Bobby Lashley was 100 percent natural due to Bellator's drug testing, Joe Rogan still complimented him as a fighter.

Lashley transitioned into MMA much differently than Brock Lesnar as he spent more time competing on the regional circuit before joining Strikeforce and Bellator. Rogan mentioned that the former WWE champion had a legit background and was a skilled fighter:

"He was [a WWE guy] and he can fight, man...He's a legit fighter, legit fighter, but there ain't no way you're testing negative...Also he's 48." [7:57 - 8:16]
