Joe Rogan reflects on his intense MMA training from his youth: "It was all day"

UFC analyst and commentator Joe Rogan recently traveled down memory lane to recollect the experiences of his martial arts training days from his youth. Rogan also stressed how his training routine made his daily schedule jam-packed.

The American podcaster got into martial arts training from his early adolescence years. The 57-year-old detailed how an altercation in school paved the way for martial arts training in an episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE).

Rogan hosted the ex-Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, in the latest episode of JRE (no. 2245), where the two delved into discussions about several topics. Besides other conversations, Rogan also talked about what the martial arts training days from his youth looked like.

The JRE host explained how he used to go through a pretty hectic routine in those days. He mentioned training for "hours" and sometimes "the whole day". Rogan also disclosed that he didn't get any breathing time after returning from school, to get to his martial arts training sessions. He said:

"Hours. The whole day. It was all day. The moment I would get home from school, I would eat something...and then I would get on the t [a public transport] and head out and train"

Why did Joe Rogan never compete in martial arts professionally?

Joe Rogan has also showcased his mettle in various amateur martial arts tournaments. A video of Rogan knocking out one of his rivals in an amateur taekwondo fight in 1987 bears testimony to his formidable competitiveness.

But Rogan didn't compete in martial arts after he started experiencing extreme headaches just from sparring. He earned no money despite competing in fights leading to prioritizing his health over a passion for MMA. In episode no. 900 of JRE, Rogan detailed the reason for giving up competing in martial arts events. He said:

"When I stopped fighting, it was in 1989. That was the last kickboxing fight I had. And there was nothing, there was no money in it. And I was getting headaches just from sparring."
