Joe Rogan's former commentary partner opens up about Sharks legend Joe Thornton's jersey retirement: "Always treated us like family"

One of Joe Rogan's former commentary partners recently opened up about the San Jose Sharks retiring the jersey of Joe Thornton, who had been a legend for the franchise. His #19 jersey was raised to the rafters at the SAP Center in San Jose, California last weekend, with many of his former teammates and friends celebrating the occasion.

The Canadian center was acquired by the Sharks in 2005 and went on to have a 15-year stint with the team and served as their captain from 2010-2014. Despite never winning a Stanley Cup, 'Jumbo Joe' was regarded by many as one of the top playmaking centers of his generation and is San Jose's all-time assists leader. Among the fans reflecting on his NHL career and stint with the Sharks was former UFC commentator Mike Goldberg.

In addition to being Rogan's longtime commentary partner, 'Goldie' has been a massive Sharks fan and has been friends with several players including 'Jumbo Joe'. The Canadian center is no stranger to MMA as he has been in attendance for several UFC events and shown on the broadcast. Ahead of his jersey retirement ceremony, Goldberg lavished praise on Thornton and mentioned that he has always treated his family well since they've known each other:

"What an absolute honor and a trip down memory lane to be in #sanjose for Jumbo's jersey retirement! He has always treated us like family!... #19 forever!"
