Joe Rogan's former commentary partner reveals how he assisted Joe while at the desk
Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan had undeniable chemistry when calling UFC events. The duo were the voice of the promotion for 19 years, until the promotion parted with 'Goldie' in 2016.
While speaking with Vibe 105.5 FM Toronto, Goldberg reflected on his time working with Rogan in the UFC. The two were the voices for the promotion while the promotion struggled financially and witnessed its popularity skyrocketing. He described how the two had natural chemistry and a real friendship, saying:
"He's my powerful partner. He's fun to be around. He's knowledgeable, he's passionate, and we were truly friends. And we will always truly be friends... We just loved working with each other. We both were motivated by the other's enthusiasm. We would read off of each other, we would energize each other, and we just had a natural fun spirited broadcast for the fans."
Goldberg then added that he wanted to ensure that he delivered the JRE host with the perfect setup to deliver his expert analysis. He mentioned that the job of the play-by-play commentator is to help highlight the color commentator and used a football analogy, saying:
"It was my job to get Joe Rogan the ball wherever he was open, wherever he was... So, I took a lot of pride and if it was tossing to him, going deep, going over the middle, knowing Joe is the star and getting him the ball at the appropriate times and letting him do what he's the best at and that's calling fights."
Since parting ways with the UFC, 'Goldie' has remained busy in broadcasting. He joined Bellator and served as their play-by-play commentator from 2017-2021 and is currently the play-by-play commentator for bare-knuckle boxing promotion BYB Extreme.

"He [Joe Rogan] went up to Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta] and he just said, 'I love working with Goldie. I don't wanna work with some other schmo. Don't let him go, he's great at what he does and we have a great relationship.' And I'll always be thankful to Joe for that." [15:28 - 15:46]
