Joe Rogan says "imminent threat" of Donald Trump benefits left's anti-Constitution rhetoric, continues criticism of viral NYT article

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan delivered a scathing critique of a New York Times article that suggested that the U.S. Constitution might be a dangerous threat to democracy. Rogan has been actively vocal in the current political climate leading up to the 2024 United States presidential election, which will be held on Nov. 5.

Rogan touched upon the subject in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience with American author Bret Weinstein. He spoke in length on a seemingly provocative piece by The Times' book critic Jennifer Szalai, titled 'The Constitution Is Sacred. Is It Also Dangerous?' The article questioned whether the Constitution might be viewed as anti-democratic and problematic in modern politics.

The 57-year-old expressed his disbelief that the biting perspective would be published in a reputable outlet. He said:

"What the fu*k are you talking about? One of the biggest threats to America's politics might be one of the greatest documents that any country was ever founded on, if not the greatest ever. That could be a threat to America’s politics? What politics are we talking about? Like what-how could you possibly gaslight me enough to go along with you on this?"

Furthermore, he argued that the perception of Donald Trump as an 'imminent threat' enables the left to push extreme critiques of constitutional protections:

"This is why a person like Trump is so important to them because if you don’t have someone that is an imminent threat on the horizon in three months, it's very difficult to justify all this sh*t."

Donald Trump addresses rumors of beef with Joe Rogan

Donald Trump recently fired back at Joe Rogan after he praised Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s vision on an episode of his popular podcast. Rogan labeled the chairman and founder of Children's Health Defense "reasonable and intelligent" while asserting that he "attacks actions and ideas."

These comments did not sit well with Trump, who lashed out at Rogan on the social media site Truth. The former U.S. president touched upon the rumors of his beef with Rogan in a recent episode of the Lex Fridman Podcast and said:

"I don't think there was any tension and I've always liked him, but I don't know him. I only see him when I walk into the arena with Dana [White] and I shake his hand. I see him there and I think he's good at what he does, but I don't know about doing his podcast. I mean, I guess I'd do it, but I haven't been asked and I'm not asking him. I'm not asking anybody."
