Joe Rogan says his podcast opened his eyes to unhealthy nature of Subway and other fast food: "It took me a long time"

Aside from being one of the most influential voices in the podcasting world, UFC commentator Joe Rogan is also a prominent figurehead of men's physical and mental health. In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the stand-up comedian and podcasting icon had conservationist and author Paul Rosolie as a guest.

The two spoke about the terrible effects of fast food and how the sugar content of Subway sandwiches is so high that they're considered cake in Europe. Rogan admitted that it took him a while to truly understand what it means to "eat healthy", saying:

"We have bullsh*t food. I don't eat most of that stuff but if you do, you're gonna be really unhealthy. And most people aren't educated. It took me a long time to understand this stuff. I mean, I tried to eat healthy before that, but mostly through the podcast and talking to people - getting an understanding of how bad the stuff really is for you - and then experimenting with diet and watching how much better my body felt."

Joe Rogan describes his overall diet being "mostly meats and fruits"

Going ahead in the podcast, Paul Rosolie asked Joe Rogan if his diet is mostly carnivore now, as the podcaster is a known advocate of a meat-heavy diet. Rogan affirmed this but also gave a more detailed description of his dietary patterns saying:

"Mostly meats and fruits. I mean, I hardly eat any vegetables at all - but I don't avoid them. Like, if I go out to dinner and I wanna have a Ceasar salad or something, I'll eat it. It doesn't seem to bother me. But what does seem to bother me is pasta. Pasta and bread really hit home. They really wreck me."
