Joe Rogan says his upbringing makes him unable to be woke: "You could be Hitler for Halloween"
Joe Rogan admits that times have changed, but he isn't quite ready to adapt. As the comedian explained in his latest Netflix special, Burn the Boats, he believes his generation was born with a different set of social norms.
Rogan told the crowd at the Majestic Theater that he is from a different era than the young people who want to be woke. For example, the podcast host said when he was younger, it was socially acceptable to dress up as Adolf Hitler for Halloween.
Rogan said:
"I get why young people want to be woke but I can't do it because I come from a different era. I was born in 1967 and when I was a boy, you could be Hitler for Halloween. Nobody cared."
Rogan's entire Netflix stand-up special lasted 67 minutes and received mixed reviews from critics. While some found the comedian's material funny, many believe that the performance only targeted one specific audience and failed to universally resonate.
Regardless, Burn the Boats is among the top five most-watched shows on Netflix this week after it was live-streamed on Aug. 3.
