Johan Ghazali says he knew he was destined for greatness in ONE Championship: “You’re damn right”
17-year-old Malaysian teenage sensation 'Jojo' Johan Ghazali is riding high on his latest victory in the world's largest martial arts organization.
The flyweight Muay Thai star is coming off a first-round destruction of Mexico's Josue Cruz at ONE 168: Denver last weekend. And with his electric performance before a packed Ball Arena crowd in Colorado, Ghazali not only took home a much-needed victory, he also bagged a cool US $50,000 performance bonus for his efforts.
When by veteran ONE Championship broadcast analyst Mitch 'The Dragon' Chilson after his fight, if he had expected to be in this position at this stage in his career, Ghazali replied with a resounding yes.
'Jojo' said:
"It feels good. It feels amazing. You know, first of all, before anything, I want to say, Alhamdulillah. God has given me everything. And to be honest, if you guys were to ask me 4-5-6 years ago if I would be in the position that I am today, I would say you're damn right. I would say you're damn right. I put in so much hard work, so much consistency, so much everything, and also, literally, blood, sweat, and tears, day in, day out."
With the win, Ghazali further established himself as one of the stars to watch out for in ONE, and we can't wait for his next fight.
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action of ONE 168: Denver via replay on demand via Amazon Prime Video.
Johan Ghazali elated to win his second bonus in ONE: "This is crazy man"
Being showered with accolades and cash at the age of 17, here's to hoping it doesn't get to Johan Ghazali's head.
But by all indications, it seems 'Jojo' is choosing to stay humble despite his massive success.
He told ONE:
"I said this on my first bonus. I said, this is crazy man. I'm only 16, but now I'm only 17, so this is crazy man, I'm only 17. Thank you Mr. Chatri, thank you ONE Championship. Thank you to all the ONE Championship staff."
