"Jon Anik just planted that seed" - Michael Chiesa comes clean on pursuing UFC commentator goal
Michael Chiesa recently discussed how Jon Anik has been a significant influence on his pursuit of a role at the UFC commentary desk.
In addition to being a veteran MMA fighter, Chiesa often serves as a UFC desk analyst, breaking down fights. However, 'Maverick' is now aiming for a more prominent position and hopes to join the broadcasting team alongside notable names such as Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, Anik, and others.
During an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Chiesa revealed:
"I got a lot of broadcasting stuff coming up, July to September... It wasn't a goal of mine when I got in the UFC. But Jon Anik just planted that seed when I was an Ultimate Fighter, and that seed is just grown and it's starting to sprout and dude, I love getting on the other side of the camera and talking fights."
He added:
"I love it almost as much as I love competition. It's right there. It's neck and neck, and I just can't tell you how thankful I am and how much gratitude I have for my gamble paying off. Like, I really pushed my chips all in the middle and gambled on myself with this MMA thing. not just as a competitor, but as a broadcaster."

Michael Chiesa reflects overcoming tough stretch in the UFC
Michael Chiesa faced a rough patch after the Neil Magny win in January 2021. Chiesa then went on his first three-fight losing streak in his career, falling to Vicente Luque, Sean Brady, and Kevin Holland.
Overcoming the setbacks, 'Maverick' now rides on a three-fight win-streak, having defeated Tony Ferguson, Max Griffin, and Court McGee in just under 11 months.
Chiesa recounted his comeback journey in an Instagram post and wrote:
"Around this time last year, I was wondering if I still had it in me to keep competing. Fast forward to now, I’ve pocketed 3 wins in 10 months. I’m still evolving, I’m still learning, I’m still pushing myself and I’ve still got that fire to keep competing. I still got “it”. To everyone that has supported me during those dark times, I love you so much and I can’t thank you enough. On to the next one. #visionquest #campchiesa"
