Jon Jones answers Tom Aspinall's callout after Brit's first-round knockout win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304
Tom Aspinall has yet to capture the interest of Jon Jones but he has had the undisputed heavyweight champion's attention since winning the interim belt at UFC 295. After Aspinall's first interim title defense over Curtis Blaydes, Jones gave his thoughts on the 31-year-old on social media.
Aspinall unsurprisingly called out Jones once again after knocking out Blaydes in one minute. The Englishman sent a polite message to 'Bones' in his post-fight octagon interview, igniting a response from the champion on X.
Jones did not immediately respond on the night of the fight but gave a coy retort the following day, calling the message "supply and demand."
While Jones is not officially booked for his first heavyweight title defense, he claimed to have already signed a contract to fight former champion Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden in November. The two were expected to fight in November 2023 before Jones withdrew from an injury, opening the door for Aspinall's interim title win over Sergei Pavlovich on short notice.
In the lead-up to UFC 304, UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that he will have Aspinall fight the winner of Jones vs. Miocic likely in early 2025.
Tom Aspinall secures a knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes
The only blemish in the otherwise spotless UFC career of Tom Aspinall is an injury TKO loss to Curtis Blaydes in July 2022. After he claimed the interim title at UFC 295, Aspinall was given a chance to rewrite history in a rematch with Blaydes as his first defense and did so in just one minute.
Blaydes posed a threat on paper as the superior wrestler but did not get the chance to shoot a single takedown before he was knocked down by a jab from Aspinall and finished with ground-and-pound.
Aspinall's win was his third consecutive first-round knockout and seventh first-round finish in the UFC. The Salford native was already the owner of the shortest average fight time in UFC history before the fight and will only improve on that record after his 12th career knockout win.
