Jon Jones isn't concerned about Tom Aspinall's age, backs himself in potential matchup: "I would still whip his a*s"

Jon Jones has finally addressed the possibility of facing Tom Aspinall, believing that he'd have no issue in getting the victory if the pair ever step foot in the octagon.

'Bones' is currently expected to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic later this year, after their UFC 295 bout last November was canceled due to Jones suffering an injury.

Aspinall then stepped in on short notice to face Sergei Pavlovich on the card, finishing the Russian fighter inside the first round to win the interim heavyweight belt.

Aspinall has since been calling for a unification clash against Jones, initially stating that he wanted to fight him because he believes he is the better fighter. Aspinall has recently swithced up his tactics, however, and has now started posting skits about Jones 'ducking' him for the fight.

Although Jon Jones has typically been dismissive of the potential bout, suggesting Aspinall isn't 'worthy', it appears as though the British champion's persistence has started to strike a nerve with him.

Recently, Jones responded to a fan on X who asked him if he believes he could defeat Tom Aspinall in the octagon. Addressing for the first time what the outcome of their clash could be, the UFC star wrote:

"Bro, absolutely. I’m getting close to being in fight shape and I’m weighing in at 245 now. He probably cuts weight to get down to heavyweight. The night we fought he would probably weigh a solid 25 pounds more than me, seven years younger, and I would still whip his a*s like I’ve done everyone else. You guys can go ahead and believe the hype, I’ll keep doing what I’ve always done, win."

Daniel Cormier backs Tom Aspinall's new approach to securing the Jon Jones fight

Daniel Cormier has admitted that he believes the only way for Tom Aspinall to get his fight with Jon Jones is to be disrespectful.

After successfully defending the interim heavyweight title in March against Curtis Blaydes, Cormier stood in the octagon with Aspinall as he made a respectful callout to 'Bones'.

Whilst Aspinall has since switched up his tactics by releasing skits about the heavyweight champion, 'DC' has stated that the British fighter must take it further. Speaking in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Cormier said:

"I thought he completely fumbled the post-fight interview with me in Manchester... He was very respectful in that interview... What does respectful get you? Doesn't really get you all that you want. Now respect is out of the window with this dude and he is just telling it how it is. Here is one thing about Jon Jones,... he doesn't like disrespect. He can't ignore it. He can't ignore when you take shots at him."
