Jon Jones explains why he chose to train with Henry Cejudo
Jon Jones has praised Henry Cejudo for his coaching abilities.
Over the past year, ‘Bones’ has trained with Cejudo several times to prepare for his heavyweight debut. The former UFC light heavyweight champion recently made an appearance at Fight Ready MMA, where he discussed the coaching skills of ‘Triple C.’ Jones had this to say:
“I’m glad I came out here. Henry is just so intelligent. He’s such a great leader and tactician, and it’s just been great… Henry is just super passionate about MMA. It’s the details, you know, angles, and it’s really just the details… I’d love to have Henry coaching me for this Ciryl Gane fight. Hopefully our schedules can align and we can get on the same page. He could be one of my corners.”
Jones revealed that his heavyweight debut will be against Ciryl Gane. It’ll be intriguing to see if ‘Bones’ does have the former two-division UFC champion in his corner. Since fighting last in May 2020, ‘Triple C’ has helped train Jiri Prochazka, Zhang Weili, and Deiveson Figueiredo.

Jon Jones claims he’s fighting Ciryl Gane in ‘a few weeks’
Jon Jones announced his next opponent would be Ciryl Gane after T-Mobile Arena potentially leaked the fight news. The arena advertisement displayed the heavyweight matchup as a title fight on March 4. During the video on Henry Cejudo’s YouTube, ‘Bones’ hinted at the March date by saying:
“Just a few weeks out from my first heavyweight championship fight against Ciryl Gane.”
The March 4 event is UFC 285, which still doesn’t have a main event. Assuming Jones is telling the truth, the former UFC light heavyweight champion will finally have a heavyweight opponent after bouts against Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou didn’t materialize.
Meanwhile, Gane is coming off an impressive performance against Tai Tuivasa, bouncing back from a disappointing loss against Ngannou for the heavyweight title.
Jones vs. Gane isn’t official until the UFC makes an announcement, which is expected to happen soon.
