Jon Jones expresses his desire to bury the hatchet with Daniel Cormier
Jon Jones has declared that his intense rivalry with fellow former champion Daniel Cormier is now behind him. The two fighters were involved in one of the most memorable rivalries in UFC history, facing off against each other twice in title fights. Jones emerged victorious in both contests, although his knockout victory at UFC 214 was later overturned into a no contest after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Despite their past verbal and physical altercations, Jon Jones has extended an olive branch to his former rival Daniel Cormier, who has since retired from the sport. Jones has welcomed Cormier to commentate on his upcoming fight against Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285 on March 4th.
Jon Jones has even hinted that he and Cormier could become friends in the future. Jones has expressed that he has no issues with Cormier's work as a commentator, and in fact, he believes Cormier is excellent in that role.
During his recent appearance on Unlocking the Cage with Jimmy Smith, the former LHW kingpin stated:
"I do believe that Daniel will do a great job. All the guys do a really good job at being unbiased. The UFC hires these guys because they’re professionals and, yeah, I think he’s going to do a great job if he gets the job. Daniel has commentated for me before, I believe he was in the corner when I fought Ovince Saint Preux and did a great job. He’s not biased."
He further added:
"Outside of the sport, I have no ill will toward Daniel. I think he’s a very stand-up individual, and I think we’d actually make great friends if we were ever to sit down in front of each other and really just chat it out.”
It is possible that we may receive a check-in from Cormier about his thoughts on the upcoming UFC 285 fight with Jon Jones, now that Jones has emphasized his desire to bury the hatchet and move forward.
Jon Jones issues a cautionary message ahead of his heavyweight showdown against Ciryl Gane
Jon Jones has issued a warning to his upcoming opponent, Ciryl Gane, after the French heavyweight revealed that he has had limited training in recent months. The two fighters are set to face off in the octagon on March 5th for the heavyweight title, and the verbal jousting has already begun.
Jones, who has been out of action since his February 2020 victory over Dominick Reyes, took to social media to respond to Gane's slow training claim. Jones has a reputation for being a fierce competitor and is known for his tenacity in the octagon.
'Bones', who will be fighting at heavyweight for the first time, instantly reacted to Ciryl Gane with a Tweet that read:
"I smell a trap, either way doesn’t matter, I’m training my a** off."
