Jon Jones gives sarcastic reaction to Colby Covington's "Donald Trump" excuse for UFC Tampa loss: "We all appreciate the sacrifice"
Jon Jones reacted to Colby Covington's lack of preparation as the reason for his loss at UFC Tampa. 'Chaos' suffered a doctor-stoppage loss to rising star Joaquin Buckley on Dec. 14.
Covington claimed his training was sidelined by his efforts to assist president-elect Donald Trump on the campaign trail. In a video, he said:
“It’s one fight, you know? and I’m more than just a fighter, you know? I’m gonna let this fuel me. I’m gonna get a full training camp. [I] came on short notice. This is for the company. This is for the fans. This wasn’t a full training camp; and I was campaigning for Trump, you know, getting him ready. I wasn’t even in the training room. I came off the couch on two-and-a-half weeks notice… It’s a tough ending to go like that."

Michael Bisping weighs in on Joaquin vs. Colby Covington at UFC Tampa
Michael Bisping believes Joaquin Buckley showcased superior skills against Colby Covington at UFC Tampa, crediting Buckley for dominating all aspects of the fight. Despite Covington stepping in on just three weeks' notice, Bisping highlighted Buckley’s decisive edge.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, 'Count' said:
“Colby Covington, fair play, I respect him. He stepped up on short notice, wanted to defend his spot, wanted to prove that he’s willing to take on young, up-and-coming contenders. But tonight was not his night.”
He further added:
"Joaquin Buckley just kind of picked him apart, busted him up early, opened up a cut right on the eyelid... It was a really good performance. Now granted, Colby Covington as the fight was going on, he was having more success with the wrestling. But his face was a mess. He was getting pieced up by Joaquin Buckley.”
