Jon Jones hints at having "sleepless nights" over GOAT debate after Donald Trump's recent comments: "I was never good at anything"
Jon Jones is considered by many the greatest MMA fighter of all time. After Donald Trump's recent laudatory remarks about him, 'Bones' has now revealed that he has sleepless nights over the GOAT debate.
During an appearance on YouTube star Logan Paul's IMPAULSIVE Podcast, the former President of the United States named Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jones as two fighters whose names are often flaunted in the MMA GOAT discussions.
'Bones' showed his happiness in realizing Trump thought so highly of him, by reposting a snippet from the interview, on his Instagram.
Check out Donald Trump's comments below:
Jones has been known to vehemently defend his supposed GOAT status against other credible candidates, including the likes of 'The Eagle' and Georges St-Pierre.
And the MMA legend reposting Trump's interview on his feed has been interpreted by a fight fan as his unhealthy obsession with the GOAT status. @rizzie_rascal speculated:
"Jon [is] having sleepless nights about who's the GOAT."
The UFC heavyweight champion hit back stating:
"If you were in my shoes, you would think about it a bunch too. It's rare to be number one in the world at something. I was never good at anything growing up. So yeah, I'll fight for this one."
Jones holds a pro-MMA record of 27-1, with his sole loss coming via a DQ owing to illegal elbows. In 2011 Jones became the youngest ever to win a UFC title as he TKOd former light heavyweight champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua in the third round at UFC 128.
Since then he has enjoyed multiple stints at the top of the light heavyweight division, before claiming the heavyweight gold in a first-round submission over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.
When Dana White snubbed Islam Makhachev for Jon Jones as the pound-for-pound best
Dana White firmly believes Jon Jones is the greatest fighter to have ever graced the octagon. The 54-year-old has time and again reaffirmed his stance on the GOAT debate, picking 'Bones' as his favorite each time.
White is not happy with the current pound-for-pound ranking which has snubbed Jones for current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev for the top spot.
During the UFC 302 press conference, after Makhachev's submission win over Dustin Poirier, the UFC CEO said:
"For anybody to call Islam the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world when Jon Jones is still f*****g fighting is n*ts... When you think about what pound-for-pound ranking really mean, he moved up to heavyweight and destroyed the best guy in the world."
