Jon Jones hits back at fan defending Colby Covington and undermining 'Bones' following UFC Tampa: "You're right I can only dream"

Jon Jones took another jab at Colby Covington following Covington's recent defeat. After a year-long break from competition, Covington faced rising contender Joaquin Buckley on short notice at UFC Tampa on Dec. 14. Unfortunately for Covington, Buckley dominated the fight with his explosive striking, ultimately winning by a third-round TKO due to a doctor's stoppage.

Jones, who has faced criticism for refusing to fight a younger Tom Aspinall in a heavyweight title unification bout, has mocked Covington in a series of social media posts over the past few days. In response to one of Jones' posts on X, a fan defended Covington, praising him for taking on a younger fighter on short notice, writing:

"Colby fought a dangerous contender at 37 years old on short notice. You can ONLY dream of that."

Jones responded:

"Yeah, I could only dream of making such a dumb decision. Being on a losing streak. You’re right I can only dream."

Colby Covington renewed his attack on Jon Jones during the UFC Tampa media day

Colby Covington and Jon Jones were roommates during their college years and shared a close friendship at that time. However, their relationship has deteriorated in recent years. Covington, known for making provocative statements, mentioned that their friendship soured after Jones allegedly began using steroids in their college years.

The pair have exchanged insults on social media multiple times, making questionable claims about each other. Leading up to his recent fight at UFC Tampa, Covington launched a fresh attack on Jones, saying:

"I think Jon Jones has come fruity tendencies. I think the media needs to look into some of the fruity things he does... He knows deep down inside, I know his hidden secrets that are in his closet. Jon Jones is an absolute disgrace... He's a joke!"

Criticizing Jones' UFC 309 win over Stipe Miocic, Covington added:

"Yeah, he beat Stipe. Respect to Stipe first off, because he's a first respondent and he puts his life on the line for the people and his community. So shout out to Stipe - He's the greatest heavyweight of all time. But he was way past his prime. He shouldn't even have been there... Jon needs to stop ducking Aspinall like he ducked Ngannou..."
