Jon Jones seeks overturning of ‘No Contest’ ruling against DC after USADA rule change on picogram violation

Jon Jones, the former longtime light-heavyweight champion, is seeking to have his previous 'No Contest' ruling against Daniel Cormier overturned following a recent rule change by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on picogram violations.

In 2017, Jon Jones fought Daniel Cormier in a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 214. However, Jones' victory via a devastating head kick was soon overshadowed by a positive drug test for the steroid Turinabol. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) ruled the fight a 'no contest' after Jones tested positive for a picogram amount of Turinabol metabolite prior to the fight. The decision meant that Jones' win was officially removed from the record books.

However, in a surprising turn of events, USADA recently changed its stance on picogram violations, stating that they are no longer considered a doping violation. This means that Jones is now hoping to use this rule change to argue for overturning the previous ruling against him.

Jones and his team argued that the small amount of Turinabol found in his system was residual from a previous positive test and that he did not intentionally take the banned substance before the Cormier fight.

Despite this argument, the CSAC has yet to make a decision on Jon Jones' appeal to overturn the 'No Contest' ruling. The ongoing saga surrounding Jones' positive drug test and subsequent ruling has caused controversy in the MMA community and has led to questions about the effectiveness of anti-doping policies in combat sports.

Before Jon Jones can start thinking about facing Stipe Miocic or any other top heavyweight contender, he must first focus on his upcoming fight against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March.
