Jonathan Haggerty believes his evolution will give him the edge against 'traditional' Superlek: "He stayed the same"
British star striker Jonathan Haggerty believes he has all the required upgrades in place to overcome Superlek Kiatmoo9. The two-sport king puts his bantamweight Muay Thai crown on the line against the promotion's flyweight kickboxing world champion in the main event of ONE 168: Denver inside Ball Arena on September 6.
With a chance to secure the biggest victory of his career and avenge a defeat he absorbed to the latter in October 2018, 'The General' has spared no effort throughout fight camp.
As such, the 27-year-old Orpington native is confident of his chances, especially since he doesn't sense much of an evolution in 'The Kicking Machine's' arsenal ahead of their headliner five-round contest.
In an interview with The Sporting News, Jonathan Haggerty claimed:
"I know what works for me and what doesn't. I'm a completely different fighter. I feel like he's stayed the same really — with just a traditional Muay Thai kind of style."
Eagle-eyed analysts would certainly agree with Jonathan Haggerty's outlook. It has, after all, taken him to new heights since putting pen to paper on the global stage.
'The General' has claimed three world titles under the ONE banner, the first being the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title he picked up with an impressive showing against living legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao. At present, the Londoner sits atop the bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing thrones.
Johan Ghazali expects Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek to deliver in Denver
Malaysian-American teenage superstar Johan Ghazali, who competes against Josue Cruz at ONE 168: Denver, predicts a back-and-forth duel between the pair of world champions come September 6.
Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA, the 17-year-old pointed out:
"This one's gonna be good. Two of the most in-form fighters meet, and I expect both of them to like go all out, you know. I see Superlek using his speed and power to control Haggerty, but Haggerty, too, can do the same. However, I think it'll be much harder for him."
