Jonathan Haggerty believes he’ll one day reclaim bantamweight Muay Thai: “It’s just a matter of time”
Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and former bantamweight Muay Thai king 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty of the United Kingdom has no doubt in his mind that he will be back competing for the Muay Thai gold in no time.
In fact, the 27-year-old Team Underground representative says the path he treads on now is similar to one he had already experienced prior. Haggerty is confident he has the tools in his repertoire to bounce back from a recent knockout loss to archrival 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 last month.
Superlek delivered a stunning counter elbow in his rematch with Haggerty, stopping 'The General' in his tracks just 49 seconds into their main event showdown at ONE 168: Denver at Ball Arena.
Speaking to Sky Sports MMA Club podcast in a recent guest interview, Haggerty says he expects to be back sooner rather than later, and is looking for a third fight with 'The Kicking Machine'.
'The General' stated:
"I lost a belt before, I remember I was a lot more down than I am now. Because I know how hard I trained, how much I want it. So I know for sure I’ll definitely get that belt back, it’s just a matter of time."
Needless to say, Haggerty is one of the most talented fighters on the ONE Championship roster, and fans should not be surprised for 'The General' to bounce back so quickly.
Jonathan Haggerty says there is no bad blood with Superlek Kiatmoo9 despite rivalry: "There was no animosity there"
Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek Kiatmoo9 may have an intense rivalry going on that has spanned the greater part of the last decade. But the fiery Englishman says there exists no ill-will nor bad blood between the two.
He said:
"Yeah, he’s a very respectful athlete, very respectful fighter. So I congratulated him and he spoke to me and my family as well, so there was no animosity there, we’re all good."
