Jonathan Haggerty made a promise to himself after losing belts to Rodtang in 2020: “You don't ever want to lose again”
Reigning and undisputed ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty of the United Kingdom suffered a heartbreaking pair of defeats to reigning flyweight Muay Thai king 'The Iron Man' Rodtang Jitmuangnon in 2019 and 2020.
But after those setbacks, Haggerty promised himself never to go through the same thing again or at least try not to. As a result, he hit the gym, and hard. He got so much better that now, he's a two-sport world champion in the world's largest martial arts organization.
In a video titled 'Retrospect' posted to his official YouTube channel, Haggerty looks back on his harrowing defeats to 'The Iron Man' and what came after when he defeated Japan's Taiki Naito.
'The General' said:
"The fight was in Singapore, and this was actually when COVID hit, and it was very difficult to train. Nobody was allowed in the stadium. I wasn't even allowed to train with my coach. Good shots, that was the right. He didn't like the right hand. So you could just imagine coming off a loss, you don't ever want to lose again."
Haggerty defeated Naito by unanimous decision, getting himself back in the win column. His winning streak has extended to six, and he captured a pair of golden belts along the way.
