Jonathan Haggerty pumped for chance to live American dream at ONE 168: “I always told myself that’s where I’m gonna be”

Ever since he was a little boy, Jonathan Haggerty has dreamed about competing on American soil.

This Friday night, Sept. 6, 'The General' will get that chance when he steps into the main event spotlight at ONE 168: Denver for a massive ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship headliner against one of his toughest challengers to date — Superlek Kiatmoo9.

'The General' recently spoke about his dream of competing center stage in the United States, telling Inside Fighting:

"Ever since I was a little boy, I've been growing up watching the U.S. events with my dad as a young boy. And I always told myself, that's where I'm gonna be. That's what I'm gonna be doing in my career.' So right now, I'm ready to take the opportunity with both hands."

Haggerty goes into ONE 168: Denver riding a six-fight win streak, including back-to-back-to-back KOs against Nong-O Hama, Fabricio Andrade, and Felipe Lobo in his last three outings.

A win over Jonathan Haggerty would be a huge feather in Superlek's cap

If Jonathan Haggerty hopes to extend his unbeaten streak to seven and leave the Centennial State as still a two-sport king, he'll have to hand Superlek his first loss in the art of eight limbs under the ONE banner.

'The Kicking Machine' enters his clash with Haggerty on a 10-fight unbeaten streak, including a unanimous decision victory over reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai world titleholder Rodtang Jitmuangnon—the man who beat Haggerty not once, but twice.

Superlek — who sits as the ONE flyweight kickboxing title holder — also holds victories over Japanese K-1 legend Takeru Segawa and Thai prospects Nabil Anane and Kongthoranee Sor Sommai.

However, despite all his success over the years, a win over Haggerty would undoubtedly be the feather in Superlek's cap.

Can 'The Kicking Machine' pull it off 5,280 feet above sea level, or will 'The General' continue to dominate the bantamweight division and keep Muay Thai gold wrapped around his waist?

ONE 168: Denver will air live on Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime in both the United States and Canada on Friday, Sept. 6. Follow this link for tickets to attend the event live at Ball Arena.
