Jonathan Haggerty rates Superlek as ‘one of the best’ in the world before they throw down in Denver
Two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty knows just how good 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 is.
After adding another epic win by knockout to his resume at ONE Fight Night 19 in Bangkok, 'The General' will head to the United States for another can't-miss title clash.
On Friday, September 6, Haggerty will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship on the line against Superlek in the ONE 168: Denver main event. It will be the first time that two of the greatest strikers in all of combat sports collide on martial arts' biggest global stage.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated ahead of their highly anticipated clash in The Mile High City, Jonathan Haggerty was quick to acknowledge just how good 'The Kicking Machine' truly is and the danger he possesses with one indisputable sentence.
“Superlek is undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the world,” Haggerty said matter-of-factly.
Haggerty goes into the contest on a six-fight win streak, including a trio of highlight-reel finishes against Nong-O Hama, Fabricio Andrade, and Felipe Lobo.
Jonathan Haggerty ready to prove he's the better fighter at ONE 168: Denver
As for Superlek, 'The Kicking Machine' rides into The Centennial State as the ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion. He also boasts a spotless record in the art of eight limbs, going 10-0 under the ONE Championship banner.
That includes some seriously impressive wins over the likes of Nabil Anane, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, and most recently, Kongthoranee Sor Sommai.
Superlek also holds a win over Jonathan Haggerty, though that victory predates their ONE Championship debuts. Their first-ever meeting came in 2018 at a Yokkao event in the United Kingdom. Since then, a lot has changed between the two fighters, and 'The General' is more than ready to prove it when they run it back at ONE 168: Denver.
"When we last fought, I was a boy. I’m a man now," Haggerty told The Sporting News. "I’m adapted. I know myself as a fighter."
Who leaves with the win, the gold, and the bragging rights when two of the P4P best fighters in the world collide at one of the biggest combat sports events of the year?
