Jonathan Haggerty renews his call to face Demetrious Johnson in special mixed rules fight
After a frustrating year with several canceled fights, ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty will return to the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4. The fight will see Haggerty move up a weight class to the bantamweight division, facing a new set of challenges and an adjustment to his game plan.
Despite his decision to leave the flyweight division, Haggerty says that he still has one eye on a flyweight opponent that he dreams of facing one day.
In an interview with The MMA Superfan, ‘The General’ said he’s not closing his doors to flyweight, especially if an opportunity to face a legend in the sport presents itself:
“Now I’m out of the flyweight division but I still feel the closest with the flyweight division. I’d love to go with ‘Mighty Mouse.’ I grew up watching him. He’s the GOAT, he’s the best in the world. There’s no doubt about it.”

Earlier this year, Demetrious Johnson faced Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the first-ever mixed-rules super fight. The bout consisted of four alternating rounds of Muay Thai and MMA, which Johnson won in the second round with a rear-naked choke. In the lead-up to the fight, Jonathan Haggerty expressed a willingness to step in for Rodtang if in case the Thai superstar was unable to make it to the fight. It looks like ‘The General’ is still open to that challenge despite him moving to bantamweight.
“I can’t lie, I’m loving it” - Jonathan Haggerty is enjoying the preparations at bantamweight so far
‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty promised to make a big comeback after several canceled fights this year.
Haggerty is just weeks away from finally returning to action, making his debut in the bantamweight division against Russian striker Vladimir Kuzmin on November 18 at ONE on Prime Video 4.
Whilst the decision to leave the weight class wasn’t easy, Haggerty has said that he is enjoying the changes in his own preparation and the new challenges that the weight class presents.
Speaking to The MMA Superfan, Jonathan Haggerty explained how his training camp has changed since moving up a weight class, removing the restrictions on him from making flyweight:
“The main thing is, really man, I’m a lot happier, socializing a lot more, and yeah, a lot more weight. To get to flyweight, I was eating a lot of fish and mainly just fish. But now, I’m on the steak, I’m on the chicken. I can’t lie, I’m loving it! So we’ll just see how it gets on. I have faith in myself. My team has faith in me. I’m sure we’re gonna go out there and crush it and make a statement. And who knows what’s on the horizon?”
