Jonathan Haggerty says training in Thailand got him locked in like never before: “Live, train, eat, sleep, repeat”

ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty believes his decision to train in Thailand enhanced how he approaches training and made him a better fighter.

'The General' shared this in an interview on the Winners Talking Podcast, which dropped last month. He talked about his journey as a martial artist under ONE Championship, highlighting how his Thailand training is allowing him to focus on what he needs to do for his fights.

The Orpington, England native said:

"That's why I moved out there (Thailand). I moved out there for like nine months with my missus to pursue it. And it was crazy out there -- live, train, eat, sleep, repeat."

Check out what he had to say below:

Jonathan Haggerty was last in action at ONE: 168: Denver in September, where he lost the bantamweight Muay Thai world title he previously also held to Thai superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9 by knockout in the opening round.

It is something he looks to redeem himself from in his defense of the bantamweight kickboxing gold against top contender Wei Rui of China at ONE 171: Qatar on Feb. 20, 2025.

Jonathan Haggerty out to showcase strong mind to bounce back at ONE 171

Following a tough loss in his previous fight, Jonathan Haggerty is out to showcase that he has a strong mind to bounce back when he returns to action at ONE 171: Qatar on Feb. 20, 2025.

The champion British kickboxer conveyed this in the same interview, highlighting how apart from putting the physical work, professional athletes like him should also be ready mentally to get back up when things do not go their way.

He said:

"It's all down to hard work. If I were to tell anyone getting into this sport, I'd tell them it's hard. And there's more to that."

He added:

"You're going to have the highest of the highs, the lowest of the lows. You need to be strong-minded and not let opinions get to you. Listen to your coach. Your coach is the one that's with you at all times."

At ONE 171: Qatar, Jonathan Haggerty is seeking to rebound from the 49-second knockout loss he was dealt by Superlek Kiatmoo9 in September in the United States. The result cost him his double world champion standing after losing the bantamweight Muay Thai championship belt because of it.

ONE 171: Qatar will take place at the Lusail Sports Arena in Lusail and air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
