Jonathan Haggerty sings praise for limb-different Jake Peacock: “He’s a great athlete”
Reigning two-sport titleholder Jonathan Haggerty believes limb-different standout Jake Peacock is an inspiration. Peacock was born with an unexpected congenital amputation of his right hand after the amniotic band was wrapped around his arm during the early stages of development.
Still, that hasn't stopped 'The One' from fighting for his dreams — literally. After amassing an impressive 12-1 record competing primarily under the Lion Fight banner, Peacock made his ONE Championship debut at ONE Friday Fights 58 in April.
There, he secured an impressive unanimous decision victory over Kohei Shinjo, setting the stage for what could be the beginning of an iconic run for the Canadian-Brit.
Speaking about Peacock's impressive ONE Championship premiere during an interview with Sky Sports MMA Club, Jonathan Haggerty said:
"You know, the main thing is, he’s very inspirational. He’s come in, like you said, at the world’s biggest martial arts organization with all the best fighters in the world, and coming in with a disadvantage, with one arm, and some people are like, ‘How does he do it? But he manages his fighting style, and he knows he just got to do it. Props to him, you know. He’s a great athlete."
Jonathan Haggerty books massive Muay Thai title tilt for ONE 168 in Denver
While Jake Peacock has not yet booked his second appearance for the promotion, Jonathan Haggerty already has his next world title defense lined up.
Returning to the Circle on Friday, Sept. 6, the reigning ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world titleholder will put his belt up for grabs at ONE 168 when the promotion heads back to the United States for another history-making night with ONE 168: Denver.
There, 'The General' will go toe-to-toe with perhaps the best P4P fighter in the art of eight limbs, Superlek Kiatmoo9.
If Superlek comes out on top, he will add the bantamweight Muay Thai title to his collection which currently includes the ONE flyweight kickboxing crown.
Will 'The Kicking Machine' become a two-sport champion, or will 'The General' keep his streak alive and add another notable name to his growing hit list?
