Jonathan Haggerty tells his father not to worry, he and younger bro Freddie will dominate ONE: “He doesn’t have to do the fighting”
ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty is confident that he and his younger brother Freddie will continue to be a steady force in ONE Championship. He even assured that their father need not worry that the foundation he laid down would go to waste.
'The General' touched on this when asked on the Winners Talking Podcast on how their father is viewing their affairs as martial artists, highlighting that their parents are proud of what they have accomplished and behind them all the way.
Haggerty said:
"I mean he [father] doesn't have to do the fighting. He can just send me and my brother, we both go our own ways. But yeah, he's proud. My mum's proud as well. She's been there. She's always there at the fights."
Jonathan Haggerty has had a lot of success since joining ONE Championship in 2019. He has won eight of his 11 matches to date and become flyweight and bantamweight Muay Thai and bantamweight kickboxing world champion along the way.
His brother, Freddie, meanwhile, made his promotional debut in January this year and has won all of his three matches so far, all by knockout. The most recent was over Thai Kaoklai Chor Hapayak early this month by TKO in the third round.
Jonathan Haggerty seeks to maintain world champion standing in next fight
Jonathan Haggerty is set to return to action in February next year where he is out to maintain his world champion standing in ONE Championship by defending the bantamweight kickboxing championship belt.
The English fighter will be back at ONE 171: Qatar on Feb. 20 at the Lusail Sports Arena in Lusail. He will defend the kickboxing gold against No. 1 bantamweight contender Wei Rui of China.
Haggerty returns and seeks to bounce back after losing the bantamweight Muay Thai world title in September in the United States to Thai superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9. The defeat dislodged him as a double world champion.
ONE 171 will mark the first defense of Jonathan Haggerty of the kickboxing gold he claimed in November last year. He secured a second-round knockout of bantamweight MMA king Fabricio Andrade in their all-champion clash for the then-vacant kickboxing strap.
Out to make it a short reign for him is Wei, a multiplie-time K-1 champion who made a successful ONE debut in May with a decision victory over former bantamweight kickboxing king Hiroki Akimoto of Japan.
ONE 171: Qatar will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
