Jonathan Haggerty thanks fans for unconditional support after losing Muay Thai title to Superlek: "Got love around me"
Jonathan Haggerty has not made it this far in his career by crumbling under the pressure and weight of adversity.
'The General' has shown throughout his career that he can bounce back from major setbacks, and that's what he intends to do following ONE 168.
The Brit was riding the best winning streak of his career into the main event on Sept. 6 when the biggest fight of his life awaited. Haggerty was out to defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship and secure revenge over his former foe, Superlek Kiatmoo9.
The fight was stopped in the opening minute after the challenger landed a devastating elbow after fans were expecting a back-and-forth war.
Fortunately for Haggerty, he has the right people around him and a fan base that has helped to make his recovery process a smooth one.
He spoke in a recent interview with the Sky Sports MMA Club Podcast about how he's been able to remain positive since this difficult night at the Ball Arena in Denver:
"I've been great. I've got a lot of support from social media, family, and obviously the people around me. I've been great. Got love around me, which I've been thankful for, so that's good at the moment."
Jonathan Haggerty has responded well in the past
When you look back at the career of Jonathan Haggerty, it's clear that he can respond well to difficult moments in his career.
The Brit was just an exciting prospect when he was beaten by Superlek for the first time before both men arrived in ONE Championship. Not to mention his two losses in classic fights with Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Both of these losses came before he would go on to produce a stunning winning streak and become a two-sport world champion under the ONE banner.
Haggerty is down but not out.
