Jonathan Haggerty vows to "move forward on becoming the champion again" after losing Muay Thai gold to Superlek in Denver
Jonathan Haggerty has had some time to reflect on the recent setback that he went through, but now he's ready to push forward once again.
The Brit is no stranger to coming back from adversity. This loss, however, understandably carried a lot of weight behind it.
Haggerty has been on a great winning streak but that came to an end at ONE 168, where he put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship on the line.
He was stopped by ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the very first minute after making a crucial mistake that allowed his challenger to make the correct read and land a devastating elbow.
In a video on Instagram, Haggerty showed his vulnerable side by letting fans see what the aftermath of the loss was like:
"Raw back stage footage of emotions after my loss at ONE 168. It was a very hard pill to swallow after the hard work & dedication that went into this fight camp! The early mornings, late nights and countless hours not only me but my whole team put in. I'm Disappointed by the out come but I've been in this position before and become champion again. With the great time I have around me it's time to rebuild and move forward on becoming the champion again."
Jonathan Haggerty will come back stronger from this
The result at the Ball Arena in Denver was a tough one to take, but Jonathan Haggerty will come back stronger from this experience.
The reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion learned a vital lesson about himself and being too eager in his main event meeting with Superlek.
As Haggerty said himself, he's got the right people around him to make sure that he will be able to put this loss behind him and get back on the right path.
We will no doubt see a new and improved version of 'The General' in the near future.
