Jorge Masvidal aims explicit trash-talking at 'brain-injured' Colby Covington, dismisses his title shot to be rumors

Jorge Masvidal isn't on board with the idea of Colby Covington getting a title shot and recently went off on 'Chaos' in an expletive rant as he rubbished the rumors.

After Leon Edwards beat Kamaru Usman in their rematch at UFC 286 and solidified his hold over the welterweight crown, UFC president Dana White made it clear that Covington is next in line for the welterweight title shot, leading to many arguing against the merit of the said opportunity.

Dana White committed to Colby Covington getting the next title shot no matter what happens with Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal (or I'm assuming Belal Muhammad apparently)

"Colby gets the next shot no matter what happens."

In a recent UFC 287 pre-fight press conference, Masvidal weighed in on Covington's potential title shot and brought up the brain injury claims made by the Californian following their infamous incident in a Miami restaurant last year. He questioned the legality of Colby Covington fighting for the welterweight belt:

"Those things about Colby fighting Leon, those are rumors. That dude has a brain injury, like I said... I got three felonies on my head because this guy's saying, "I got a brain injury." I'm pretty sure on a medical level, you can't fight if you have a brain injury."

Masvidal also had profanity-laced words for Covington as he answered whether or not 'Chaos' will attend the event this weekend. He said:

"Of course. He’s an attention-seeking-a** wh**e, He’s going to be there... He’s going to be saying all types of crazy s***... He’s only the king of calling cops and sucking c****."
Jorge Masvidal calls Colby Covington "the king of calling cops and sucking c*cks" and questions how he'll get a UFC title shot while making legal claims of brain injury.

Colby Covington title shot: What led to the altercation between Jorge Masvidal and 'Chaos' in March 2022?

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal fought each other at UFC 272 in a much-hyped welterweight barnburner. The former best friends were meant to settle a bitter rivalry brewing for years, starting with a financial dispute between 'Chaos' and Masvidal's long-time striking coach, Paulino Hernandez.

In the build-up to their fight, Covington's trash-talking regularly included personal shots at Masvidal and his family. While this isn't out of character for the No.2-ranked welterweight, 'Gamebred' didn't take kindly to the insults.

Colby Covington dominated Jorge Masvidal during the bout, cruising to a decision victory. However, twenty-five minutes together inside the octagon wasn’t enough for the two to settle their grudge. 16 days after UFC 272, Masvidal jumped Covington outside a Miami steak restaurant and allegedly punched him twice.

Watch the footage below:

'Gamebred' was subsequently charged with two felonies, aggravated battery, and criminal mischief. The court has dropped a third felony for committing a felony while wearing a mask. While Jorge Masvidal pled not guilty, his next pre-trial court hearing is set for May 10 in Miami-Dade County court.

Meanwhile, Jorge Masvidal is set to face Gilbert Burns at UFC 286 this weekend, and a win could spell a title shot for either fighter. The event is set to be headlined by a middleweight rematch between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira.
