Jorge Masvidal promises to paint a Vincent Van Gogh on Gilbert Burns’ face at UFC 287 in Miami
Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal spoke with MMA junkie and previewed his fight against Gilbert 'Durinho' Burns, set for UFC 287 in Miami, Florida. Masvidal will welcome Burns to his hometown as he looks to get back into welterweight contention with a win.
Speaking on the scheduled bout, Masvidal said:
"This chapter (of my career) would be called: Gilbert ‘The Stepping-Stone’ Burns,” Masvidal said. “It’s no diss to Gilbert. I think he’s a good competitor and he comes to fight and stuff like that for the most part, but we’ve never been on the same skillset. As far as gameness and toughness and durability, he’s never had it, either. You crack him and he starts skating.
"I know he’s good in the jiu-jitsu world, but his wrestling ain’t that. I’ve only been focusing on the last six months that I can deal with these wrestlers efficiently, get to positions efficiently, not waste as much energy. I’m going to paint my Van Gogh on Gilbert’s face. Elbows, knees, kicks, takedown defense, takedown offense – all that good stuff. I’m going to bring it.” (23:01 to 23:55)

The holder of the BMF belt, Masvidal promises to make violent work of Burns to earn a title shot. In the same interview, Masvidal stated that this was his path forward and that he had "insider information."
According to him, if he was to beat Burns, he would earn a chance to face Leon Edwards. Given that Edwards and Masvidal do have history, and 'Gamebred's star power, this does not seem too far fetched.
