Jorge Masvidal reflects on serving Leon Edwards the "three-piece and a soda" at UFC Fight Night 147
Jorge Masvidal's return to the octagon will come against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. The No.11-ranked welterweight believes that a victory will land him a title opportunity due to his feud with Leon Edwards. 'Gamebred' recently discussed the incident that sparked the rivalry between him and the current welterweight champion.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Masvidal stated:
"I personally don't hate the guy. I know he doesn't like me, but one age, maybe in his older years, he'll understand, 'I'm the one that cut off his interview, I'm the one that was talking s**t online, I'm the one that told him to shut up while he was doing this interview and then when he approached me, I put my hands up'. I'm talking for him. When I approached him, he's the one that put his hands up."
The welterweight contender continued:
"Whatever happened, happened afterwards, but you started that whole s**t. If you would've just walked by my interview and not cut me off and not told me to shut up and not put your hands up, I probably wouldn't have had to serve you up. Since you got stupid and you acted like you're some f**king delinquent from the hood, I got to treat you like you are."

Jorge Masvidal added that he loves to fight and when people test him, he is always willing to fight whether he is getting paid or not. The No.11-ranked welterweight infamously gave Leon Edwards a "three-piece and a soda" punch combination backstage at UFC Fight Night 147 in 2019. The pair have teased a bout over the past four years, however, nothing has come to fruition as yet.

Jorge Masvidal's return: 'Gamebred' believes a title shot will follow UFC 287
Jorge Masvidal has not won a fight since winning the 'BMF' championship at UFC 244. Despite this, the No.11-ranked welterweight believes that a victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 will earn him a title shot. Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, 'Gamebred' stated:
"I love Dana, but Dana says a lot of things... As I recall, champions have always called the shots... I'm going to go out there and break f**king Gilbert's face and then Leon's going to call my name out and then I'm going to go fight Leon for this belt and that's it. Colby can just sit in the timeout box until I call his a** up to fight me again."

UFC President Dana White has suggested that Colby Covington is next in line for a welterweight title opportunity. Leon Edwards has hinted that he may refuse to face 'Chaos' due to the latter's inactivity. The welterweight champion has also suggested that he may be in attendance at UFC 287 and that Jorge Masvidal is atop the list of welterweights he is looking to face.
