"Hopefully, I'm kicking Leon's a** soon"– Jorge Masvidal wants redemption against Kamaru Usman after beating Leon Edwards
Jorge Masvidal has indicated that he'd love to face reigning champion Leon Edwards for the welterweight title and then look for redemption against Kamaru Usman.
The Usman-Edwards series of fights is tied at one win apiece. Usman beat 'Rocky' via unanimous decision in 2015. Edwards avenged that loss by stopping 'The Nigerian Nightmare' via fifth-round KO for the championship this August. In his latest interview with MMA Fighting's Mike Heck, Jorge Masvidal claimed that he'd correctly predicted how the Usman-Edwards rematch would play out.
Earlier this year, the 37-year-old had opined that Usman was the more well-rounded fighter and would likely beat Edwards, whilst acknowledging that 'Rocky' was more polished on the feet.

'Gamebred' had also warned that despite Usman being unbeaten in the UFC at the time, he wasn't invincible and could get caught by Edwards, which is exactly what happened in the rematch. Masvidal stated:
"I literally called it right on the head. Two weeks before I got asked, 'What do you think is gonna happen?' And you go to that interview, and I called it fight for fight. And I said, 'This is what's going to happen. But if Leon wins, it's by this.'"
Masvidal added:
"And literally, it happens. And the way that I said it in the interviews, it's like, God told it to me in my dream. So, what does that mean that hopefully, I'm kicking Leon's a** soon, and then I can get back in front of Usman. I can get back in front of everybody."

Is a Leon Edwards grudge match on the cards for Jorge Masvidal in 2023?
The feud between welterweight mainstays Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards reached a crescendo at UFC London in March 2019 when 'Gamebred' attacked 'Rocky' backstage at the event. The infamous "three-piece and a soda" incident left Edwards with a cut under his eye.
Nevertheless, Masvidal and Edwards haven't clashed inside the octagon yet. 'Rocky' was scheduled to fight him last December. However, their matchup fell apart due to Masvidal suffering an injury. Edwards recently referenced Masvidal's current three-fight losing streak and noted that 'Gamebred' won't fight him for the belt.
Regardless, Jorge Masvidal has been relentlessly calling for a fight against 'Rocky.' The consensus is that if Masvidal wins his next fight and Edwards beats Usman in their trilogy matchup, a Masvidal-Edwards grudge match for the welterweight belt could finally materialize in 2023.
