Josh Thomson claims losing to Jake Paul won't affect Nate Diaz's star power: "Nate's never really cared about that"

Josh Thomson believes Jake Paul is not a good fight for Nate Diaz. According to Thomson, Paul is too big and fast for the Stockton slugger.

Thomson noted that the only positive for Diaz in accepting a fight against Paul would be the payday. However, the former UFC lightweight believes Diaz has never really cared about that due to his drawing power. According to Thomson, the Stockton native will continue to sell fights irrespective of a loss to Paul or anyone else for that matter.

Thomson said on the Weighing In podcast:

"I get the cash grab, I understand. And you know, Nate's never really cared about that. Look he's a guy that he could lose his next ten fights, people are still gonna watch. He's gonna bring the action, the social media, the sound bites, the eyeballs. Nate's gonna bring all that."

Nate Diaz fought out his UFC contract earlier this year when he defeated Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279. Since his departure from the UFC, rumors surrounding a potential fight against Jake Paul have been rife. This escalated after 'The Problem Child' called out the former UFC fighter after his win over Anderson Silva.

Jake Paul believes Nate Diaz will be an easier fight than Anderson Silva

Jake Paul improved his perfect record to 6-0 with a unanimous decision win over the legendary Anderson Silva last Saturday. Immediately afterwards, he called out Nate Diaz, belittling the MMA superstar for causing an interaction backstage and subsequently leaving the arena before the main event.

This wasn't Paul's first dig at the Stockton native, with the two having previously hinted at a potential matchup on multiple occasions. However, having beaten Silva, 'The Problem Child' now considers Diaz easy work.

When asked why he considers Silva a better boxer than Diaz, Paul said on The MMA Hour:

"Anderson Silva is way more difficult than Nate Diaz. He’s slow and at the end of his career. He’s lost it, as far as striking. Maybe he still has jiu-jitsu. But, as far as striking and all that, he’s just a street fighter, and boxing is the purest sport. It’s art, you can’t come in and street fight someone in a boxing match. Anderson has length, has the height, Anderson hits harder, is more slippery, has better head movement, the list goes on. So, I know that Nate is easier.”
