"Just trying to make a name for myself" - Underdog Nico Cornejo bares his mindset ahead of Adrian Lee matchup

One's mindset is just as important as one's physical prowess. Lightweight MMA fighter Nico Cornejo subscribes to that line of thinking ahead of his ONE Championship debut against Adrian Lee at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 inside the Ball Arena.

Speaking with MMA UK, the Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu and Warrior Built MMA product shared his motivations:

"Honestly, I let my work do most of the talking. What I do in the cage, what I do outside the cage, you know. And I'm just trying to make a name for myself."

'The Steel City Kid' caught the attention of ONE Championship brass when he logged back-to-back TKO finishes in 2023 to kickstart his pro career. He is now eyeing a successful career in the world's largest martial arts promotion.

However, Adrian Lee is already a formidable opponent despite his age.

The 18-year-old is coming off a wondrous promotional debut this past June when he leaned on his masterful ground game to submit Antonio Mammarella in the second round with a rear-naked choke.

Because of their opposing fighting styles, how 'The Prodigy' will fare against a tough-nosed opponent like Cornejo will make their ONE 168: Denver clash a must-watch.

Nico Cornejo feels no pressure ahead of ONE 168 showdown with Adrian Lee

At 34 years old, Nico Cornejo believes there is no reason for him to feel any pressure ahead of his bout with Adrian Lee at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 inside the Ball Arena.

In the same interview with MMA UK, Cornejo said:

"This is the biggest stage of my life so far. So I'm gonna soak everything in, take nothing for granted, and just go with it, show the world who Nico Cornejo is."
