Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo breakdown Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya: "Israel reacted late"
Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo recently analyzed the middleweight title clash between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya, which served as the main event of UFC 305 this past weekend.
It was an entertaining bout that saw 'Stillknocks' earn a fourth-round submission win after securing a rear-naked choke that forced 'Izzy' to tap. During the latest episode of their Pound 4 Pound podcast, 'The Nigerian Nightmare' and 'Triple C' broke down what transpired and shared their thoughts on Adesanya's performance following his layoff. Usman said:
"It's almost like while Israel [Adesanya] was hurt, when you're hurt you're not firing that fast to understand that, 'I need to defend the next move'...It was almost Israel reacted late to figure out that, 'hey, oh no, I'm in a bad position'...Next thing you know, he's tapping."
The former two-division UFC champion then chimed in and noted that 'Izzy' performed well early on in the fight. Cejudo mentioned that although Adesanya started strong, he didn't take many risks, which cost him as the fight progressed. He said:
"[Adesanya] looked so good that first round. Dude, his fakes, his faints, he was doing a lot of reads. But I felt like after the first round, like there wasn't a lot of risk taken on Israel's side. There's something that comes with Dricus that's just different. He's kind of unstable, not necessarily a sniper. He's just a goer."

"I'm actually gonna go a little further than that, Kamaru. Not only you are gonna have to call [du Plessis] the middleweight champion of the world, but you're gonna have to call him the King of Africa now."
