Kamaru Usman looks back at iconic moment of Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes sharing a beer after their first fight in 2022

Kamaru Usman offered up his thoughts on the popular photo of Tom Aspinall sharing a beer with Curtis Blaydes after their first fight. We're a couple of days after the second anniversary of the initial Aspinall versus Blaydes bout with the former losing in 15 seconds due to a knee injury on July 23, 2022.

The rematch looms this Saturday as present-day interim UFC heavyweight champion Aspinall will defend the strap against Blaydes in the UFC 304 co-main event in Manchester, England this weekend.

By way of Instagram, @espnmma was reflecting on the widely shared photo of the two hulking heavyweights sharing a beer following their fight. A former UFC champion was found in the comment section of this post offering up his thoughts on Blaydes and Aspinall cracking some cold ones after throwing down, albeit briefly, inside of the octagon hours earlier.

When Kamaru Usman cracked a beer a bit too soon

Kamaru Usman enjoys some wobbly pops himself and at one point opened an adult beverage just before an important bout offer came his way.

The 37-year-old was set to face Gilbert Burns at UFC 251 but following the title challenger having a positive COVID-19 test, the then-welterweight champion Usman decided to treat himself. The prolific welterweight stated how Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington reportedly both said no to bout offers with Usman responding to this by deciding to load up on food.

He publically stated that he had not had a beer in ten months before that moment and ordered one along with some Mexican cuisine while sitting himself at an airport restaurant.

It was then that his manager Ali Abdelaziz called Usman who had just twisted the cap off of his uncle's soda. Needless to say, Usman placed the cap back on and did not even take a swig of the beverage as he just had an in-cage assignment locked in.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' would go on to defend his 170-pound title against Jorge Masvidal in the July 2020 pay-per-view main event. Usman stated how he had to then mentally refocus and seek his council for guidance as he boarded a plane amid the global pandemic to make the sophomore defense of his strap.

Usman would go on to secure a unanimous decision win over 'Gamebred' in what was reportedly one of the most widely purchased PPV events that the company ever promoted.
