Kamaru Usman responds to Dricus Du Plessis' "I'm the African fighter in the UFC" comments
Kamaru Usman's return to the octagon will come at UFC 286 this weekend as he looks to reclaim the welterweight throne.
'The Nigerian Nightmare' recently weighed in on comments from No.6-ranked Dricus du Plessis in which he claimed that he was the African figher on the UFC roster.
Speaking at UFC 286 media day, the former welterweight champion stated:
"The one thing he's failing to realize is just because I go to China, and my parents are in China, and I'm raised in China, that doesn't make me more Chinese than people from China. Just because you went over to South Africa and you were raised there, that doesn't make you African. Try to be a little bit more careful with what you say, and how you say it."
Kamaru Usman added:
"These younger guys and these newer guys they get up here and they just talk because they want to appeal to the fans and appeal to the people, but try to be more mindful because 20 years from now, that's not going to age well."

Usman (who has lived in the United States since the age of 8) added that he has trained with du Plessis and was confused by the direct shots in which the No.6-ranked middleweight insinuated that he was more African than himself, Israel Adesanya, and Francis Ngannou. He attributed the comments to the heat of the moment while claiming that living in South Africa does not make 'Stillknocks' more African than Africa's 'Three Kings' of UFC.
Kamaru Usman's return: 'The Nigerian Nightmare' claims Leon Edwards is forgetting their last fight
Leon Edwards shocked the world when he landed a head kick that knocked out Kamaru Usman with less than a minute left in the fifth round of their UFC 278 clash. 'The Nigerian Nightmare' recently shared that he believes 'Rocky' is forgetting the other 24 minutes of the bout, stating:
"I almost feel like he's forgetting what happened 24 minutes in the last fight. Of course, it was a beautiful technique and you landed it, which I'm a fan of - I was like d**n that's beautiful, I gave him props for it - but you're forgetting what happened. What did you display in those two fights that leads you to believe you're a better mixed martial artist than me?"

While Edwards was able to pick up a fifth-round victory via a vicious knockout, Usman controlled the fight up until that point. The former welterweight champion claimed that he is the king of the division and that he will walk away from the sport on his own terms.
