Kamaru Usman responds to Joaquin Buckley's callout at UFC 307: "Take a number and get in line"

Kamaru Usman recently responded to Joaquin Buckley after he called him out following his win over Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson at UFC 307 this past Saturday. The former welterweight champion has been targeted by many top contenders, especially considering what a win over him could do for their careers.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' has been out of action recovering from his lingering injuries that piled up throughout his career. He last competed last October at UFC 294, where he lost a controversial decision to middleweight contender Khamzat Chimaev.

During the latest episode of his Pound 4 Pound podcast, Usman clapped back at 'New Mansa' and assessed his performance against 'Wonderboy'. Usman mentioned to co-host Henry Cejudo that Buckley hasn't been the only competitor expressing interest in fighting him and he believes Thompson was winning the fight before he got dropped:

"Take a number and get in line. I believe [Buckley is] probably the tenth, eleventh guy, I don't know how many guys have called me out...I believe he was losing that fight [with Thompson] and it was just a way to be relentless and find the shot eventually to get that finish. So hats off to him, he did a great job." [28:04 - 28:34]

Kamaru Usman will not decline Joaquin Buckley fight

Kamaru Usman's inevitable return has generated plenty of interest among the MMA community.

During the aforementioned episode, Usman disclosed that he wouldn't decline a fight against Joaquin Buckley if the promotion offered him.

"If that's the fight, then that's the fight. If it's not, it's not. Obviously right now I'm working on myself and trying to get myself back because I fought injured for so long to where I achieved all the things that I achieved, but at some point it does catch up to you...I ain't going nowhere. I'm still here and eventually I will get in there and I will show the people that I am once again the king." [28:35 - 29:03]
