Kana Morimoto names atomweight kickboxing queen Phetjeeja as her 'current target' in ONE Championship

ONE Championship's latest star signing, Kana Morimoto, has wasted no time calling her shots.

The Japanese martial artist wants to kick off her campaign in a five-round scrap. In particular, Morimoto has her radar locked on ONE atomweight kickboxing world champion 'The Queen' Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom.

Speaking to the South China Morning Post shortly after her signing, the 32-year-old shared:

"My current target is Phetjeeja a champion in the same weight class as me."

Going up against the Thai, who's been in the form of her life under the promotional banner, will certainly be a test unlike what she's faced throughout her career. But 'Krusher Queen' has all the weapons she needs in the stand-up department to go toe-to-toe with the divisional queen.

The former K-1 women's flyweight tournament champion and Krush flyweight champion has left her mark through her time competing on the local circuit, building a 22-4 slate against the biggest and best names in Japan.

That, coupled with her desire to impress, will make Kana Morimoto an absolute must-watch as and when she opens her ONE Championship account.

Anissa Meksen could stand in the way of Kana Morimoto's world title dream

Ideally, the Matsuska native would like to be locked in for a world title shot in her promotional bow. But one superstar could prevent that dream from happening — multi-time striking world champion Anissa Meksen.

The Algerian-French striker has taken to her social media account about wanting in on a fight against Kana Morimoto way before the Japanese star joined the ONE roster earlier this week.

Besides, the pound-for-pound great has been waiting for her chance to run it back against Phetjeeja after going down to her in their ONE interim atomweight kickboxing world title matchup at ONE Friday Fights 46 in December last year.

As such, an Anissa Meksen-Kana Morimoto world title contender matchup could be an interesting proposition for the ONE matchmakers. Given their all-out attacking approach, it will be a back-and-forth war.
