Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi explains importance of having a "great relationship" with the UFC

Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi recently opened up about his relationship with the UFC and explained why it's important to be on good terms with the promotion. He noted that it can benefit his product as opposed to challenging the MMA leader.

It's important to note that the UFC is basically another outlet for Karate Combat as their events have aired on Fight Pass, which allows them to gain additional exposure. There have also been several UFC fighters and champions that have attended their events including Aljamain Sterling, who competed in a grappling match for the promotion.

During his appearance on Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson's JAXXON PODCAST, Zaidi explained the importance of a good relationship with the UFC. He mentioned that his promotion is striking based and targets a specific audience rather than the PFL, who is actively trying to compete with them in hopes of becoming the biggest MMA promotion. The 34-year-old said:

"We have a great relationship with the UFC. A lot of organizations try to fight against the UFC, like PFL, they're trying to battle them. We just don't wanna do that. We want to be the greatest striking league in the world...We're focused on a very niche audience, you know, striking oriented with a pit and production. We're just trying to do it different and we want good relationships with them."

Asim Zaidi says he wants to learn from Dana White

In addition to having a great relationship with the UFC, Asim Zaidi expressed his desire to learn from Dana White.

During the aforementioned appearance, the Karate Combat president mentioned that he has a great deal of respect for White and that he'd like to learn more from him in order to improve as a promoter. He said:

"I look up to Dana White to be honest. I wish he would want to apprentice, I would love to learn from him. I'm still very young in the sport and I'm learning trial and error and that's no good...I was a fighter, I had a coach, right? Now I'm a promoter, I would love to have a coach and having a guy like [White] as a coach, that would be the best coach in the world." [54:14 - 54:49]
