Kayla Harrison recalls first sparring session with Amanda Nunes while training at same gym: "One of us stopped after 2 rounds"
Kayla Harrison recently recalled an experience from her sparring session with the former women's UFC double champion Amanda Nunes.
Since transitioning to MMA, Harrison has been training with American Top Team (ATT). Similarly, Nunes also spent nearly eight years at the same gym.
In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Harrison was asked if she remembers training and sparring with Nunes at ATT. In response, she said:
"[The sparring session] went good. I mean, she kicked my a**, but one of us stopped after 2 rounds... I wasn't like, 'Oh, I'm going to fight her next.' But, I was like, 'This girl is the best in the world. This is it. If you want to be the best, you gotta train with the best."

Amanda Nunes discusses ideal timeline for potential Kayla Harrison fight
Kayla Harrison became the women's bantamweight champion last Saturday at UFC 316 after defeating Julianna Pena. Moments later, Harrison called Amanda Nunes to the octagon for a face-off, where both fighters expressed the desire to fight each other next.
In an interview with ESPN MMA, when 'The Lioness' was asked about a potential timeline and date for a fight with Harrison, she said:
"Honestly, if I stayed [at] American Top Team, then this fight might not [have] happen[ed]. So, I'm glad that I made the right decision, opening my own studio, my own gym, and now I do my own camp with my coach that I set up everything with, and I feel like I don't know [when], to be honest."
She added:
"I'm going to really get in camp now full-time. I was training here and there, and always in shape, and honestly, like November, December. I'm going to be ready to go before the end of the year."
