Khamzat Chimaev details how fatherhood changed him: "Before I was crazy"
MMA fans have noticed a discernible shift in Khamzat Chimaev’s demeanor leading into the UFC 308 fight week. According to them, the once-brash fighter has exuded a more measured and reflective approach going into the clash against Robert Whittaker this weekend. Their upcoming fight serves as the co-main event of the Oct. 26 pay-per-view event at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
'Borz' seemingly adopted a reflective approach, and even offered genuine praise to his opponent and other fighters at the press conference. During a recent appearance on the Eye AM Podcast, Chimaev candidly acknowledged how fatherhood has fundamentally altered his mindset.
The undefeated fighter claimed that now he contemplates his actions through the lens of being a role model for his son. Speaking about how fatherhood played a crucial role in the change, he said:
"[I want] to be a good father. Many things in my life changed after I got the kid. [I] think about things ten times before I do it. Before I was crazy [and] didn't think about how things I did could be wrong. Now before [I do anything] I think about if my son grows up how’s he going to see me? How will he think about me? What kind of man is my father?”
Speaking about whether his son could potentially pursue a career as an MMA fighter, Chimaev added:
"I don't think so. He's not that kind of guy like me. He has everything that I didn't have before. I don't think he can be that guy. Maybe he becomes a doctor."
