Khamzat Chimaev drops major news about his return, eyes title fight at UFC 308: "We are negotiating"
Khamzat Chimaev recently dropped a major update regarding his next bout and made it known that he is eyeing a title fight at UFC 308. The event is scheduled to take place on Oct. 26 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi and is believed to be another stacked card.
The 30-year-old was originally scheduled to headline UFC Saudi Arabia against Robert Whittaker last month; however, he was forced to withdraw due to an illness and was replaced by Ikram Aliskerov. Since then, there has been speculation on whether 'Borz' will compete this year but it appears as though he intends to.
Championship Rounds tweeted a quote from 'Borz's conversation with MatchTV, where he expressed interest in competing at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi and noted that the discussions have begun. Chimaev mentioned that he believes he is deserving of a title shot despite his initial bout against Whittaker falling through. He said:
"Most likely [my return will happen] in October in Abu Dhabi. The opponent is not yet known, but I would like to fight for the title. I have seven fights, seven victories. There is no fighter in the UFC who has won seven fights without fighting for the belt. Dana White constantly says different things, but we are negotiating."
