Khamzat Chimaev's coach addresses potential "megafight" with Conor McGregor

Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor have a lot in common. Both are exceptional fighters, have brash attitudes, competed in multiple weight classes, and are from outside the US.

Another thing that both fighters have is star power. While Chimaev's star power can't be compared to that of McGregor's, the Chechen-born Swede does turn heads whenever he's competing.

Whatever the disparity between their levels of success, a potential matchup between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor could break pay-per-view records. In an interview with Submission Radio, Chimaev's coach Andreas Michael chimed in with his thoughts on a potential 'Borz' vs. 'The Notorious' bout, saying:

"That is a megafight... It would be a blockbuster. It would be an amazing fight, box-office hit pay-per-view. That is - what a fight that would be, wow."

Khamzat Chimaev last fought at the controversy-laden UFC 279. 'Borz' was originally supposed to face Nate Diaz in the main event but missed weight by 7.5 pounds. Instead of pulling him from the event or awarding Nate Diaz his purse, the UFC decided to reshuffle the card.

'Borz' faced Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout in the co-main event. He secured a brabo-choke submission over 'Trailblazer' in the first round.

Conor McGregor has been away from the octagon since his freak injury in July 2021 at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. 'The Notorious' broke his tibia at the end of the first round, causing 'The Diamond' to win by a doctor's stoppage.

McGregor is currently filming 'The Ultimate Fighter' (TUF) season 31 against Michael Chandler. He is slated to make his return once the season finishes airing, sometime in the fall.

How would a potential matchup between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor go down?

Besides raking in large numbers, a potential matchup between 'Borz' and 'The Notorious' has all the makings of a bonus-worthy fight. So, what would their matchup look like?

Khamzat Chimaev is one of the scariest fighters to enter the octagon. The undefeated Chechen-born Swede has a forward-heavy style with massive punching power. What's worse is getting caught in grappling exchanges with 'Borz', who has been wrestling all his life. Furthermore, Chimaev is the younger fighter compared to McGregor.

Conor McGregor has excellent striking, with impeccable precision and timing. His knockout power and the fighters he's put away has been well documented. However, McGregor has shown loopholes in his game (which Chimaev can exploit) on more than one occasion.

When it comes to grappling, the Irishman has miles to catch up to Chimaev's level. He was dominated on the ground in his fights with Nate Diaz, Khabib Nurmagomedov and even Dustin Poirier. If Chimaev takes McGregor down, it's game over for 'The Notorious'.

🚨JUST IN🚨

As of Feb 23, Conor McGregor has yet to submit a sample to USADA.

That doesn’t, however, mean he’s not in the pool.

But if he wants to come back in early Sept - when the UFC traditionally hold a PPV - he’ll have to be in the pool in the next few weeks. https://t.co/Oi2MfNa4mU

However, if McGregor can keep the fight standing, he has a chance at winning via his dynamic striking.
